May Mid Way Reading Stats

I know I haven't been posting like I should be. My apologies. Life has been a bit chaotic lately, but everything is getting back to normal now. I haven't done as much reading as I'd like, but I'm getting back on track.

Thus far I've finished The Iron Witch (which I plan to review soon) and Children of the Fog. I may review both, we'll see. I started reading a sample of Fifty Shades of Grey because I've heard such mixed reviews and I'm a bit curious about it. If you haven't seen the SNL mother's day skit you should check it out! It's not intended for little eyes, but it's a riot.

I'll update new reviews soon. My weekly tally's have been a bit skewed as I haven't been able to keep track like I normally do, so I'll do an abbreviated version later today that covers the last two weeks.

May 2012 TBR list

Here's my list of books I'd like to read this month. With the remaining Dark Tower books being so long, I'm going to try to read as quickly as possible to keep my pace up. It's going to be a busy month so we'll see how far I get.

Books to finish from April:
The Iron Witch
by Karen Mahoney
(about half way done, 150 pages to go)
I'm having a hard time getting into this one, but it's been a quick read thus far.

Books for May:
The Dark Tower V: The Wolves of Calla
by Stephen King
(960 pages)
Anxious to see what happens to this ka-tet as so much was revealed in Wizard and Glass.

Ethereal
by Addison Moore (Celestra Series Book 1)
 (191 pages)
I've had this on my Kindle for a while. I'm interested to see how it plays out.

Children of the Fog
by Cheryl Kaye Tardif
(280 pages)
I have really enjoyed my other two reads from Tardif so I'm excited for this one.
(You can read my review of Tardif's Whale Song here)

I'm Starved for You
by Margaret Atwood
(novella, 42 pages)
I just discovered this novella/Kindle Single.
I'm a huge Atwood fan so I'm really excited to read this.

April 2012 Wrap Up

April wasn't a bad month. I was able to complete 90% of my reading goal that I'd outlined in my April TBR list. The exception has been finishing The Iron Witch by Karen Mahoney. Most of my reading time in the last week was sabotaged by more pressing matters, so I'm a bit behind. I'm only about 80 pages into the book (which is around 300 total). I'm hoping to finish it by the weekend.

I really enjoyed the Trylle Trilogy and soon will have my review of Ascend up soon.

Some fun facts about reading in the month of April:
Books read: 3.5 (read half of The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass)
Total pages read: 1,464

Keep a look out for my May TBR list. Happy reading.

Review: Torn (Trylle Book 2) by Amanda Hocking

New to Trylle? If you haven’t read Switched (book 1) in the Trylle trilogy, click here
In Torn, the second installment in the Trylle trilogy, Wendy has gone against her mother and has returned home to her “host” family’s home along with her Mansklig Rhys. Her Aunt Maggie isn’t there as she went off to search for Wendy in another state. Matt doesn’t want to believe why she’s there. Not long after their arrival, Finn shows up, along with Wendy’s new tracker, Duncan. When their attempts at getting Wendy to come back to Förening are exhausted, they leave her be.
When Wendy, Matt and Rhys are taken by the Vittra trackers to Ondrake, Wendy quickly learns that she has put herself and her loved ones in danger. In Orendrike, Wendy learns more about her past and begins to understand why the two troll tribes are fighting so viciously over her. Wendy, Rhys and Matt are able to escape Ondrake and return to Förening unharmed thanks to the help of a Markis, Loki that Wendy takes a peculiar liking to. Back in Förening, Wendy insists on Matt staying in Förening for protection.
While home, Wendy learns more about the history of her people and what is expected of her as an up-and-coming queen. She trains daily with her friend Tove to strengthen her own powers and learn more about her culture.
In Torn, Wendy is constantly challenged with the duty she has as a future queen and the battles she faces in her heart. Just when she thinks she beings to understand her circumstances, Wendy learns just how urgent her training and dedication is. She must choose between what feels right for her and what is best for her people.
The final installment in the Trylle trilogy, Ascend can be found through major booksellers nationwide.

Exciting News for Trylle Fans

I'm nearly finished with Torn, the second book in the Trylle Trilogy by Amanda Hocking. With Ascend being released in just two days, my interest in Hocking's stories is close to it's peak.

When viewing Amanda Hocking's blog today, I was excited to see that the Trylle Trilogy has been picked up for a film adaptation. I may be way behind on this news, but I couldn't help but share my excitement. Hocking hasn't released any specifics on the film adaptations yet, but she offers up plenty of good information on the advancements of the series on her blog. Her blog also has some excellent book trailers. Even if you're caught up on the Trylle series, you should check out the rest of her blog. Hocking is so down to earth and funny in her posts.

What are you most excited for with the Trylle Trilogy? Do you like film adaptations of your favorite books?

Bargin Books & Shelves

In the past few days, I have found a (hardcover first edition) book and a bookcase for under $10 combined. I won't have the bookcase until tomorrow, but I'm happy about the finds. I need bookshelves badly and while this new-to-me bookcase isn't that tall, it's a start! I may not read print books often, but that doesn't mean I don't want to show off what I've got.

Pictures and book haul, and bookshelf tour to come soon.
